11 – 1 (Eleven Minus One)

MAGIC RECTANGLES is pleased to present 11 – 1 (2010) by Amir Zaki, virtually at John Marshall High School.  

 

The videos that make up Amir Zaki’s 11 – 1 (2010) source images from a selection of Peter Fischli and David Weiss’s Equilibre from 1984.  Moving from the arrested analog of photographic images to animated, digitally cinematic moving pictures,11 – 1 renders precariously balanced compositions off-kilter and out-of-whack.  These digital constructions unbalance and amuse as they spin, teeter, and quiver.

 

The sequence of ten videos will play, pause for a moment, and play a second time.  

 

John Marshall High School is a comprehensive public high school that provides high-quality, creative and rigorous instruction for students in a diverse community.  

LOCKER is located at John Marshall High School.  MAGIC RECTANGLES is accessible via digital platforms.  

 

A screening will be held Thursday, November 19, from 6:00 – 6:30pm.  Following the screening, work may be viewed via a link at www.justlocker.com.

LOCKER announces MAGIC RECTANGLES: Screenings via video conferencing platforms and video available online for limited runs.   

 

MAGIC RECTANGLES is pleased to present The Way Things Go (1987) by Peter Fischli and David Weiss, virtually at John Marshall High School.  

 

On hold, in a state of impending collapse, an endless unraveling, a slow decline.  

 

The Way Things Go, color video, transferred from 16mm film, with sound, 29 minutes 45 seconds.  Trash bags, tires, fireworks, ladders, roller skates, soap and water, fire – minus visible human involvement, these objects do much but accomplish nothing.  Industriousness is the pointless point.
